E-commerce: fact or fiction?

Australian consumers are expected to have spent $A12.48 billion online in 2007, according to Forrester. This figure is expected to increase by 20 per cent per annum by 2010. Over 7.2 million Australians are online shoppers. Factors that are seen as retarding the growth of electronic commerce in Australia are the level of consumer trust and the lack of any presence from the large retail sector. Peter Noble, the CEO of Citrus, believes electronic commerce will boom when retailers like David Jones and Harvey Norman embrace it. Consumers are reluctant to spend large amounts online, according to @www's Joshua Frith
